I Chose The Wrong Major

Maybe you’re a senior in high school, currently a college student, or have already graduated college, but the stress of choosing the wrong major is a weight carried by all three. Being in my 3rd year of college, I am well aware that I am quite honestly in the wrong major. You know how it happens. There’s the pressure of adult figures in your life telling you what majors you need to choose to make a lot of money to support yourself, but a lot of times, there aren’t a lot of people telling you to do what makes you happy. As a child, I loved the arts: Literature, Music, Drama , you name it. It wasn’t practical in my household but I knew that it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. So…how am I currently a 3rd year Chemistry major? I started to believe everyone who said “You’ll never make money doing that.”. So growing up, it was all about the money and now…I’m stuck. You could be stuck too.

Stop trying to be something you’re not. If God wants you to be a Lawyer, why are you trying to be a Physician’s Assistant? We have this habit of telling God “Yeah i know you want this, but I’m gonna do that.” Then we wonder why life seems so hard and unbearable. Maybe you’re not where you’re supposed to be.

If you’re just starting out in college, you still have time to figure it out but if you’re like me and are basically almost done and just wanna stick it out…well…there’s always grad school. Just because you have a degree you don’t want doesn’t mean you can’t still use it as a stepping stone.

I’ve tried very hard to fit the mold of what many of the adults in my life thought I should be but I realized that it’s never worth my happiness and it isn’t worth yours either. Do something practical that makes you happy and do it well enough so you can get paid for it.
